Exploration through the Arts

This past week the students really began to explore their story telling through different art modes such as story telling, role play, scrap booking, literacy centers and dance! With a special visit and delivery from the Easter Bunny, the students went on a Easter Egg hunt in the garden, classroom and even down to the office to visit Mr. Juhasz, Mr. Ferguson, Mrs. Fuchs and Ms. Chan!

We began our math measurement unit with the students discovering all of the different tools they could use to measure bigger, smaller, shorter, taller, height, weight and so much more! It was a great opportunity to do assessment for learning as the students did a mathematical hunt for objects that were bigger and smaller than their “tool.” I was able to observe what they already knew about measurement as well as where their interests lie! The next few weeks will bring more measurement inquiry and discoveries both inside and outside of our classroom!

Listening to "Owl Babies"

Exploring literacy through games such as "Sink the Boat"

Practicing our "listen and sketch." The student's practice visualization and making pictures in their head!

Our Story Telling Word Wall has started to grow!

"It's not a circle, it's a _______" Another activity to practice making pictures in our head!

Our measurement exploration has just begun but we have already started measuring the classroom, including our "Enchanted Forest"

"Who is taller?"

The Kindergarteners creating their "Idea Book." Starting with collages of different places their stories can happen!

Spring, Sunshine and Storytelling!

Storytelling is in full bloom in the Kindergarten classroom as are the flowers in our garden! In the past two weeks we have kicked off our Fairy Tale and Storytelling unit as well as created our Storytelling Word Wall. The children have busy at work creating words and pictures to add to our Word Wall, Castle and Enchanted Forest! The children have been re-telling and acting out stories we have read as well as creating their own fairy tales and stories! In the coming weeks we look forward to discovering the various elements in story such as Characters, Setting and Plot! With Spring's arrival, we will be using our outdoor environment in our storytelling as well!
